Thanks to the abundance
of coal and water in the region, electricity for business and
industry is very economical. Appalachian Power Company and Old
Dominion Power Company serve the county, and their rates are among
the lowest in the county.
Industry
can take advantage of several million gallons of water per day
from the John Flannagan Reservoir. Approximately 2.0 million gallons/day
capacity is now available and another 3-4 million gallons/day
will be available soon. The county holds the largest natural gas
reserve in the region. This supply can be made available for industrial
use.
The county's
Public Service Authority as well as the Town of Clintwood has
excess sewerage treatment capacity available for new industry,
and additional expansion at both locations can be easily and quickly
accomplished to meet additional demands.
Dickenson
County presently operates a non-hazardous industrial waste disposal
facility. A regional approach for waste management has been initiated.
Hazardous materials can be accommodated by making arrangements
with the Cumberland Plateau Regional Waste Management Authority.
Digital telecommunications service is available throughout the
county, provided by the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company.
“Dickenson
County has a population of 17,620 with 335 square miles."
