Agriculture

Dickenson County is located on the Appalachian plateau in Southwest Virginia, where farmers primarily raise beef cattle, and grow hay and burley tobacco.

The grassy, mountainous terrain here makes Dickenson suitable for raising 1,662 head of beef cattle on 80 farms. There are also a few hog and broiler producers located in the county.

Farmers on more than half of the county's farms grow hay -- a total of 1,303 acres. And burley tobacco, one of four varieties grown in the state, is planted on 12 Dickenson County farms.
